Annual Conference & Trade Exhibition

MAV Technology “Riding the wave” National Conference & Awards for Excellence will be held in Geelong from 25-28 March 2019.

The primary focus of the conference is how we are transforming local government to serve and support communities in the digital era. Topics will include emerging technologies, AI, data ethics, business transformation, data governance, customer experience, smart cities, new and collaborative ways of working, digital access, equity and diversity – and navigating the massive cultural change that all this will bring. It will include case studies from rural, regional and metropolitan councils, state government, universities and the private sector.

Our secondary theme will explore how indigenous cultures might help shape our collective future in the digital era, using some inspiring Māori & Aboriginal people and case studies to illustrate different ways of finding purpose and self-worth in challenging times. Our conference chair, David Bartlett (former Premier of Tasmania) is excited to be returning in 2019 and will co-chair with Jirra Lulla Harvey, founder of Kalinya Communications and an inspiring and tech-savvy Yorta Yorta / Wiradjuri woman.

The event will begin with a welcome reception on the Geelong Waterfront that will be attended by dignitaries including our keynote speakers, mayors, councillors, sponsors, partners and delegates from around the country.

The plenary program will be held in the new stand at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong which overlooks the football ground (where the Geelong Cats will be in action preparing for the 2019 footy season). The venue offers fabulous catering and an expansive trade exhibition space allowing for innovative and exciting new displays from our exhibitors.

The two days of plenary sessions will feature international keynote speakers and inspirational case studies from councils, other levels of government and other business sectors. Check out this year’s exciting line up here.

On night one of the conference, we host the MAV Technology Awards for Excellence Dinner. Held at the spectacular The Pier Geelong, it will be a formal affair celebrating innovation in local government ICT in Victoria, and across Australia. We’ll have Casey Bennetto (Keating the Musical) and band on board to announce the awards in their usual entertaining way and provide a soundtrack for you to dance the night away, in all your finery.

On night two of the conference we offer an informal dinner get-together at Little Creatures Brewery, with entertainment from Tripod. If 2018 was anything to go by, the music, food and conversations are sure to be sensational.

On day three we offer a half-day site tour of Deakin University’s globally significant Innovation Precinct or a MasterClass by Deloitte Digital.

The Riding the wave conference will be held from Monday 25 March – Thursday 28 March 2019. The weather should be wonderful and there are discounted accommodation options to suit every budget.

MAV Technology member councils will enjoy heavily subsidized registration prices at less than half the cost of a standard registration. Special rates are also available for our interstate local government ICT association colleagues.

This conference is put together by local government, for local government.

Places are limited. Registrations are now open.
